Whether you are planning a week or a longer visit, moving every couple of days can be strenuous and expensive so finding one spot to settle for a week may be a better option and enable you to have a more in depth experience.

When comparing Sorrento vs. Amalfi Coast, Sorrento served as our ideal launchpad for exploring this region. Nestled in the heart of this picturesque piece of Italy, we found our sanctuary at Cioffi Sorrento rooms. With rates starting at less than €150 per night for stays of 25 nights or more, it offered comfort and convenience. While other towns may boast better beaches, Sorrento’s accessibility via local buses and trains made it our preferred choice. Navigating the narrow roads and scarce parking options made renting a car seem unnecessary.

Great Location For Day Trips
Thanks to Italy’s efficient transportation system, we embarked on unforgettable day trips to nearby cities and attractions. One of the reasons we chose Sorrento was for its multiple transportation options. You can travel by taxi, bus, ferry and train from Sorrento making it easy to get almost everywhere affordably.
The Circumvesuviana, a local metro train, took us to Naples and Pompeii from between €3,40 – €4.90 – per person each way, while high-speed rail options allowed us to explore Florence, Rome, and beyond from €23 per person.
Additionally, ferry services provided us a scenic alternative to buses, allowing us to visit the charming island of Capri and the picturesque villages, including Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, Minori, Maiori, Termini, and Massa Lubrense along the Amalfi Coast, but at an increased cost.
Overall, the buses served as the most budget-friendly option, ranging from €2,90 – €4,90 – per person each way, depending on our destination.
Amazing Sorrento Scenery & Views
Perched atop dramatic cliffs, Sorrento offered breathtaking views of the Bay of Naples, the majestic Mount Vesuvius, and the captivating island of Capri. We were mesmerized by the stunning sunsets, especially from Villa Comunale Park, and when we trekked to Punta Campanella or took the short bus trip to La Marinella restaurant in nearby Sant’Agnello.
Diverse and Delicious Food Options
When comparing our dining options and price point between Sorrento vs. Amalfi Coast, Corso Italia, with its bustling atmosphere, was a culinary delight. From upscale dining at Le Petit Bistro96 €€€ to budget-friendly options like Pizzeria da Franco €, each restaurant offers a unique gastronomic experience. We sampled the best Italian dishes of our visit at TavernAllegra €€€, La Cantinaccia del Popolo €€, Eughnes € Cafe Gentile €, and A’Marenna €, savoring the flavors of authentic Italian pastries and incredibly prepared cuisine. Avoid tourist traps like the Foreigners Club and opt for these spots or other hidden gems to experience the local flavors truly.
Hidden Spots to Discover:
Exploring Sorrento’s rich history was a highlight of our trip. We hiked, but you can also take a local bus to the ancient Baths of Regina Giovanna and marvel at the remnants of a splendid Roman Villa. Whether strolling for 40 minutes or taking a short bus ride, this historical site was steeped in history and offered a beautiful swimming area away from the crowds of Sorrento’s beach clubs for a refreshing dip.
Sorrento’s marinas, particularly the charming Marina Grande, exuded a timeless appeal. With quaint shops, local bars, and the serene Chiesa di Sant’Anna church, it felt like its own little town, offering a glimpse into the laid-back lifestyle of coastal Italy.
